Breaking Dawn - Part 1' held No. 1 spot at box office over Thanksgiving weekend

The latest “Twilight” movie has plenty of daylight left with a second-straight win at the weekend box office.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1” raked in $42 million over the three-day weekend and $62.3 million in the five days since Thanksgiving.

Debuting at No. 2 was Disney’s family flick “The Muppets,” with sales of $29.5 million for the three-day weekend and a $42 million five-day holiday haul.

Three other family films rounded out the top-five: the Warner Bros. sequel “Pleased Feet Two” at No. 3 with a three-day total of $13.4 million and $18.4 million for five days; Sony’s animated comedy “Arthur Christmas” at No. 4 with $12.7 million for three days and $17 million for five days; and Paramount’s epic adventure “Hugo” at No. 5 with $11.4 million for three days and $15.4 million for five days.

Between “Breaking Dawn” and the blitz of family films, analysts thought Hollywood had a shot at record revenue over Thanksgiving, one of the year’s busiest weekends at theaters. But viewers did not come in anywhere close to record numbers.

“I was pretty surprised by this. I just thought this was the perfect combination of films in the marketplace,” said Paul Dergarabedian, analyst for box-office tracker [...]

Worth The Long Wait

Breaking Dawn and Breaking Dawn Pictures

Another year has gone by and as I waited in line for the movie theater to open the anticipation built up. It was me, my wife and my daughter as usual and as we were let in to the theater a sudden sadness came over me, I was about to see Breaking Dawn pt. 1 and I knew it would be another year before I would see the finale of the best movie saga ever.

I sat down in our usual seats. We still had about 35 minutes before the movie would begin. I put on my iPod and started listening to the audio version of Breaking Dawn. I was at the part where Bella had given birth to the child that was tearing her apart from within. I kept wondering if I would get to see this part in the movie I was about to see. I kept wondering where they would leave off in part 1.

As the movie began with Jacob running out of his home and Bella telling us another poem I sat in my seat feeling I was about to watch one of the best Twilight movies yet. I wasn’t [...]

Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga)

The #1 New York Times bestseller is available for the first time in a mass market paperback edition.

The astonishing conclusion to the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions. Now that Bella has made her decision to join the dark but seductive world of immortals, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating, and unfathomable, consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella’s life-first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse-seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed… forever?

In Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final installment in the series, Bella’s story plays out in some unexpected ways. The ongoing conflicts that made this series so compelling–a human girl in love with a vampire, a werewolf in love with a human girl, the generations-long feud between werewolves and vampires–resolve pretty quickly, apparently so that Meyer could focus on Bella’s latest opportunity for self-sacrifice: giving her life for someone she loves even more than Edward. How close she comes to actually making that sacrifice is [...]

The Vampires of ‘Twilight’ Open Up About ‘Breaking Dawn’

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is just days away from its release. The first part of the final chapter focuses on the long-awaited marriage of Bella and Edward, and the birth of their hybrid vampire/human child. Part 2 – due out next year – will introduce dozens of new vampires to the franchise, so we thought we would spend some time with a few familiar vampires: Elizabeth Reaser (Esme), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper), Peter Facinelli (Carlisle), and Nikki Reed (Rosalie).

What have you learned from your characters?

Peter Facinelli: I learned that I prefer not to be a blonde.

Elizabeth Reaser: I’ve learned patience. Esme is always looking for a way to love someone and to be kind. That doesn’t come naturally to me all the time. So it was good practice.

Nikki Reed: I’ve learned that it’s okay if the world doesn’t like you. Sometimes playing a character that is not the most likable can be challenging because a lot of times people think you are a reflection of who you play. I’ve learned to really stand by the character I play, but also find a healthy balance and separate myself [...]

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, & Taylor Lautner On ‘Entertainment Weekly’ Breaking Dawn Cover!

The love scene does not disappoint. But, according to the stars of the movie, things could have been even more steamy — if it weren’t for director Bill Condon needing to keep the action PG-13. “There’s a version where it was really intense,” recalls Pattinson in this week’s EW. “Cinematically, cut all together, it’s awesome,” says Kristen Stewart. “But we didn’t really do that scene. ”

“And when we did,” adds Pattinson, “they kept telling us to stop.”

The PG-13 rating also limited things with regard to the climactic birth scene, which takes place at the end of the film. “That’s what I’m really disappointed about — and I’ve talked about it with Bill,” says Stewart. “It was more sympathetic or something when I played the scene with less energy, and it made it easier for him to tell the story. But in the book, Bella is screaming, ‘NOOOOO!’ [Stewart stands and demonstrates.] And I did it like that — crazy and Exorcist-like. I was going for this weird mix of turning into the most feral mother you can imagine and also fighting for my own life. I [...]

‘Twilight’: Not just for teenage girls, but their moms, too

Melisa Pratt’s “Twilight”-themed birthday party at Longhorn Steakhouse in the Vista last year featured chocolate fangs at each seat, replica covers of Stephenie Meyer’s books and a life-size cardboard cutout of the hunky character Edward.

The movie played on a screen in the background as Pratt and her friends laughed their way through dinner.

Pratt’s not some teeny-bopper. It was her 34th birthday. She’s married and has three young boys.

There’s something about the “Twilight” books and movies that bring out the inner-teen in women such as Pratt.

“The passion of the love story in the book took me out of my normal, everyday life as a stay-at-home mom to three boys,” Pratt said. “I became hooked. I can’t explain to you how much fun it is reading a series like ‘Twilight.’ Books are such an awesome way to go to other places and learn new things while in your comfy chair at home.”

She has read each of the books “so many times I can’t count.” “Breaking Dawn” is her favorite.

There’s also a social element to the “Twilight” phenomenon. Pratt anticipates the arrival of each new movie in the series, including this week’s [...]

Twilight fans can follow a 'Breaking Dawn' trail in Brazil

Brazil’s Isle Esme may be off the map for most U.S. travelers, but not for Twihards.

Ardent fans of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series know it’s where teenage heroine Bella Swan finally consummates her romance with vampire suitor (now husband) Edward Cullen. And with Friday’s debut of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1, Esme’s real-life stand-in – the 17th century Portuguese colonial town turned tropical beach destination of Paraty – is getting its moment in the sun.

Paraty (say “par-a-CHEE”), located about 145 miles southwest of Rio de Janeiro, doesn’t offer any Twilight-themed packages with broken headboards and stray feathers (both of which figure prominently in Breaking Dawn). But fans can rent Bella and Edward’s beachfront love nest for just under $4,000 per night, and stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson bunked at Paraty’s Pousada do Ouro (rates from about $185 per night) during filming. Meanwhile, Vancouver-based BikeHike Adventures’ new 9-day, $2,799 Brazilian itinerary showcases such Breaking Dawn locations as Paraty, Mamangua Tropical Fjord and Taquari Waterfall.

In the franchise’s latest installment, werewolf hearthrob Jacob Black has to stand by and watch the girl he loves marry his enemy. But back where [...]
