So as a 28 year old mother, I often find that I get weird looks from others my age for my obsession with Twilight and the cast. Instead of having to explain why I love this series so much I can just rock out a Sparklefest shirt on opening night! Our friend Laura from over at the Twilight Lexicon writes a great column for Movies.com, and this week she’s spotlighting the current struggle that Summit Entertainment is facing to prosecute those who stole unreleased Breaking Dawn footage, and then released it all over the internet. Instead, I found myself staring at a collection of low-resolution images and video taken from various scenes in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2. Three thoughts entered my head in rapid fire succession: lawsuit, cool, damn. Well…not exactly those words, but that’s the PG-13 version. It took a couple of months of investigation, but my first thought just became reality. On August 1, 2011, Summit Entertainment sent out a press release that there was in fact going to be legal action taken. According to the following sources: La Voz de Misiones (second article), Los Andes Online, Notecine, Daiana Santia claims that she only saw images while surfing the web. She claims not to have sent images to anyone, not to have logged in any where to see them, and denies having the technical knowledge on how to hack anything. She claims she did nothing more than many fans did and just viewed images on the Internet.She and her family (her father Hector is also named in the legal papers filed in California, presumably because the bill for the Internet is in his name) claim that over the last month they were harassed by movie producers demanding to see her hard drive. She claims through her attorney that she would not turn over her computer because of the personal items that are on it and because she is innocent.Her attorneys claim that any legal action should go through Argentine courts first and Argentine authorities should investigate. The drama goes on in the case of the infamous Breaking Dawn hacker. According to E! Online, the alleged suspect who was revealed earlier this week has known for quite some time that Summit is very unhappy about the situation and has completely refused any type of peaceful resolution. Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the “Twilight” film franchise, is suing a retailer that’s selling a jacket advertised as being worn by Bella Swan, the character played by Kristen Stewart. The studio filed a lawsuit against women’s fashion designer BB Dakota on Friday for copyright and trademark infringement. On the company’s website, BB Dakota advertises a blue cotton canvas jacket like this: “Bella Swann (sic) wears this jacket in Twilight and scores the hottest vampire in high school, and so can you!” What young Twi-hard could resist that product pitch? When the jacket debuted in 2008, Women’s asthma Wear Daily wrote that it was “the stuff that legends are made of.” MTV’s web site remarked it “brings you this much closer to Robert Pattinson.” Stylist.com called it “love at first bite, er, sight” with a price tag that didn’t suck. And SoJones.com sang its praises as “very vampirelicious.” For more proof, Entertainment Weekly ran a short vignette on how the jacket got into the first film. Apparently, Stewart was supposed to wear a brown hoodie, but the color blue was thought to better match Stewart’s brown hair. The fourth installment of the insanely popular ‘Twilight Saga‘ will be hitting the big screen November next year, according to HitFix.com. The red carpet event will be held on June 24, 2010 and you know that all the major players will be in attendance.
